The flight to Belize City was blessedly uneventful. Belize is 2 hours behind our North Carolina time zone, so we gained some time in our day. Our wonderful Tour Director is Herbert “Herbie “ Eagan. The BCC Study Abroad group has been joined by another group of 10 from Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Our first stop was to a small elementary school in Hattieville. BCC brought school supplies with them and made a donation. The school covered grades 1-8, with only 4 teachers. Each teacher had two classes of 24 students each. The principal ran the school and taught 3 classes. Whew! Most elementary schools seem to be run by churches. The school facilities were in very poor condition. Everyone was welcoming and so very friendly. The children were happy to share with us and so, so sweet!
